How to Store ETH on Ledger Live

Similar to storing BTC, the step-by-step guide below explains how to store ETH on Ledger Live.

Please download the last update of Ledger Live Application:

Step #1: Initiate Ledger Device Set Up

  • Initiate the set up of your Ledger device (Stax, S, Nano or X) through the creation of a PIN. 
  • Jot down your 24-word recovery phrase (when displayed during the set up) for safekeeping, as it will serve as a backup key. 

Step #2: Download and Install Ledger Live App 

  • The official Ledger Live app is available for free download on Ledger’s website. Download this app to either your computer or preferred mobile device.

Step #3: Link Up Your Respective Ledger Device

  • Start by opening the Ledger Live app.
  • Next, link up your preferred Ledger device (Stax, S, Nano, or X) to your mobile device or computer using Bluetooth in the case of Nano x or a standard USB cable.
  • An on-screen prompt will instruct you on how to unlock your respective device. Follow the instructions in this prompt carefully. 

Step #4: Install Ethereum App

  • Launch the Ledger Live app then proceed to the Manager tab.
  • On the search bar in the app catalog, initiate a search for the Ethereum app. 
  • Once the Ethereum app is located, click or tap the Install button that can be seen next to the app. 
  • Be patient and wait a while for the installation of the Ethereum app to be completed on your respective Ledger device.

Step #5: Add Ethereum Account 

  • Open the Accounts tab on the Ledger Live app.
  • Click or tap Add Account to reveal a dropdown tab.
  • Choose Ethereum and then click or tap the Continue button.

  • When prompted on your chosen Ledger device, proceed to launch the Ethereum app.
  • Your account will then be automatically synchronized with Ethereum blockchain by the Ledger Live app. 
  • Next, click or tap the Add Account button after giving a name to your Ethereum account.

Step #6: Receive ETH

  • To receive ETH, you need to launch Ledger Live then visit the Accounts tab before selecting your Ethereum account.
  • Click or tap the Receive button.
  • When prompted on your preferred Ledger device, launch the Ethereum app.
  • An Ethereum address will be displayed, copy this address from Ledger Live.
  • Make sure you confirm that the address shown on Ledger Live app is the same as that displayed on your chosen Ledger device.
  • You can then make use of the address in making an ETH withdrawal from one exchange or another. You can also share the address with someone wanting to send ETH.

Step #7: Ratify the Transaction 

  • After some network confirmations, you will be able to view the ETH (that was sent to your Ledger address) directly on your Ledger Live account.  
  • You can now be rest-assured that your ETH is securely and safely storednon your chosen Ledger device.
