How to Store BTC on Ledger Live

If you are wondering how to store your BTC on Ledger Live, well you are in the right place as this seven (7) step guide is just what you need.

Step #1: Start By Setting Up Your Ledger Device

  • You start off by setting up your Ledger device of choice. This can be Stax, S, Nano or X. 
  • Next, during the setup of your Ledger device, you need to create a Personal Identity Number or (PIN).
  • Be sure to jot down your 24-word recovery phrase and keep it safe, as this recovery phrase serves as the backup key to all your money.

Step #2: Install the Ledger Live App 

  • Once you have downloaded the Ledger Live app to either your mobile phone or personal computer, you should install the app to your preferred device. 

Step #3: Synchronize Your Ledger Device with the Ledger Live App

  • You start by opening the Ledger Live app.
  • Next, connect the Ledger device of your choice to the device where the Ledger Live app is open. You can connect your Ledger device either with Bluetoooth on the case of Nano X for example or with a standard USB cable. 
  • To synchronize your Ledger device with the installed Ledger Live app, you simply need to follow the on-screen prompts.

Step #4: Install Bitcoin App On Ledger Live

  • While on the Ledger Live app, click or tap on the Manager tab.
  • In the Ledger Live app catalog, carry out a search for BTC.
  • Once the BTC app appears, click or tap on the install button that can be seen next to the BTC app. By clicking or tapping on the Install button, the Bitcoin app will be loaded onto the Ledger device of your choice.

Step #5: Add Bitcoin Account

  • Whilst on the Ledger Live app, visit the Accounts tab in order to add a Bitcoin account. 
  • Click or tap the Add Account dropdown tab followed by Bitcoin.

  • Next, launch the Bitcoin app using your Ledger device as instructed.
  • Your account will be synchronized by Ledger Live by scanning the blockchain. 
  • You then need to name your account before clicking or tapping Add Account to complete the process.

Step #6: Receive BTC

  • To receive BTC you simply click or tap the Accounts tab followed by your Bitcoin account.
  • Next, click or tap on Receive.

  • Launch the Bitcoin app on your respective Ledger device when instructed to.
  • Your Bitcoin address will be displayed on the Ledger Live app, copy this Bitcoin address.
  • Cross-check the Bitcoin address on your respective Ledger device and make sure it corresponds with the Bitcoin address displayed on the Ledger Live app. 
  • Once you are convinced that the Bitcoin address is accurate, you can use it to withdraw BTC from one exchange or another. You can also share the Bitcoin address with a sender.   

Step #7: Transaction Confirmation

  • As soon as your Ledger address receives BTC, you will be able to view the funds on the Ledger Live app after a couple of network confirmations. 
  • Your BTC will then be secured and stored on your preferred Ledger device.
