How to use Polkadot.js Wallet with Ledger

Polkadot.js is a very simple scaffolding browser extension that injects a Polkadot API Signer into a page, allowing you to manage accounts and sign transactions with those accounts.

This article tutorial contains information on how to use Polkadot.js Wallet with Ledger.

Before you start

  • Make sure that you update your Ledger device to the latest version.
  • Install the asset app on your Ledger device. (Polkadot)
  • Ensure that you close Ledger Live before accessing Talisman Wallet.
  • Turn on Blind Sign in the asset app you want to manage on your Ledger device.
    • Connect and unlock your Ledger device.
    • Open the asset app. (Polkadot)
    • Press the right button to navigate to Settings. Then press both buttons to validate. Your Ledger device displays Blind Signing.
    • Press both buttons to enable transaction blind signing. The device displays Enabled.

Connecting Ledger to Polkadot.js

  • Connect your Ledger device to your computer. Open the Polkadot (DOT) app on your Ledger device. Wait for it to display: Polkadot Ready.
  • Open your browser (we recommend Google Chrome or Firefox). Go to polkadot.js.org/ download and install the polkadot.js extension on your browser.
  • Open the extension, and click the (+) button. Select Attach ledger account.
  • Create a name for the Ledger account.
  • Wait for your Ledger device to be recognized, then select it and click on Continue.
  • Now, you should be able to see your Ledger Polkadot account on Polkadot.js.
