How to Store DOT on Ledger Live

The guide below shows how to store DOT (Polkadot) on Ledger Live using your Ledger device.

Please download the last update of Ledger Live Application:

1. Ledger Live for Windows 10/11

2. Ledger Live for MAC

3. Ledger Live for Android

Step #1: Download and Install the Ledger Live App

  • Go to the official Ledger website to download the Ledger Live app to your personal computer or mobile device.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to initiate the set up of the Ledger app.

Step #2: Initiate the Set Up of Your Preferred Ledger Device

  • Use a standard USB cable or Bluetooth to connect your preferred Ledger device to your personal computer or mobile device.
  • You can then unlock your Ledger device using the secure PIN.

Step #3: Proceed to Install Polkadot App

  • Launch Ledger Live then scroll to the Manager tab. 
  • Go to app catalog to search for and find the Polkadot app.
  • Click or tap the Install button beside the Polkadot app.
  • Make sure you check to know if the installation of the Polkadot app on your preferred Ledger device was successful.

Step #4: Add Polkadot Account

  • Launch Ledger Live and scroll to the Account tab.
  • Click or tap on Add Account.
  • A drop-down menu emerges where you will see all the supported tokens proceed to select Polkadot.
  • Launch the Polkadot app when prompted to do so on your preferred Ledger device.
  • Your account will be created after Ledger Live is synchronized with the blockchain. 
  • Provide a name for your account then click or tap Add Account. 

Step #5: Proceed to Receive DOT 

  • Launch Ledger Live and select your Polkadot (DOT) account.
  • Click or tap on the Receive button then connect your preferred Ledger device.
  • Launch the Polkadot app on your preferred Ledger device.
  • Scan the QR code or copy out the wallet address that is shown in the Ledger Live.
  • You can send DOT tokens from another wallet or an exchange to the wallet address.

Step #6: Ratify Your DOT Cryptos

  • Be patient and wait a while for the transaction to be ratified on Polkadot blockchain.
  • Go to Ledger Live to check your DOT balance in your Polkadot account.

Step #7: Keep Your Ledger Device Secure and Safe 

  • Once you are through using your Ledger device try to disconnect it from your personal computer or mobile device.
  • Keep your recovery phrase in a secure and safe place. 
  • Do not share or disclose your recovery phrase with anyone.  
  • Now your DOT tokens are securely and safely stored on Ledger Live using your preferred Ledger device.
