How to Connect Ledger Live to Komodo (KMD)

While Ledger Live does not natively support Komodo (KMD), you can still manage your KMD holdings securely by connecting your Ledger device to a compatible wallet like AtomicDEX or the Komodo Ocean Wallet.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to connect your Ledger to a Komodo-compatible wallet and manage your KMD tokens safely.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:
✅ A Ledger Nano S, Nano X, or Nano S Plus.
✅ The latest version of Ledger Live installed.
✅ The Komodo Ocean Wallet or AtomicDEX (Ledger-compatible wallets).
✅ Your Ledger device initialized and updated with the latest firmware.

Step 1: Set Up Your Ledger Device

  1. Initialize Your Ledger (if new)
    • Follow the on-screen setup instructions.
    • Write down your 24-word recovery phrase and store it securely.
  2. Install Ledger Live & Update Firmware
    • Download Ledger Live from the official website.
    • Install and open the app.
    • Connect your Ledger device and update its firmware if needed.

Step 2: Install the Komodo (KMD) App on Your Ledger

Since Komodo is a UTXO-based blockchain (similar to Bitcoin), you’ll need the Bitcoin app on your Ledger to manage KMD.

  1. Open Ledger Live and go to “Manager” (the third tab on the left).
  2. Connect and unlock your Ledger device.
  3. Search for “Bitcoin (BTC)” in the app catalog.
  4. Click “Install” to add the Bitcoin app to your Ledger.

(Note: The Bitcoin app is used because Komodo is Bitcoin-compatible, and Ledger does not have a dedicated KMD app.)

Step 3: Connect Ledger to a Komodo-Compatible Wallet

Option 1: Using Komodo Ocean Wallet (Recommended)

  1. Download Komodo Ocean Wallet
    • Visit the official Komodo website: https://komodoplatform.com.
    • Download the Komodo Ocean Wallet for your OS (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
  2. Open Komodo Ocean Wallet
    • Launch the wallet and select “Hardware Wallet” when prompted.
    • Choose “Ledger” from the list.

  1. Download AtomicDEX
  2. Connect Your Ledger

    • Open the Bitcoin app on your Ledger when prompted.
  3. Manage & Trade KMD
    • Once connected, you can trade KMD directly from your Ledger-secured wallet.

Step 4: Send and Receive Komodo (KMD) with Ledger

Receiving KMD

  1. Open your Komodo Ocean Wallet or AtomicDEX.
  2. Click “Receive” to generate a KMD address.
  3. Verify the address on your Ledger screen (to prevent phishing).
  4. Share this address with the sender.

Sending KMD

  1. Open your wallet and click “Send.”
  2. Enter the recipient’s KMD address.
  3. Input the amount and adjust fees if needed.
