Introduction
Komodo (KMD) is a privacy-focused blockchain platform that offers secure, scalable, and interoperable solutions for decentralized applications. If you hold KMD tokens, storing them on a Ledger hardware wallet ensures maximum security by keeping your private keys offline.
While Ledger Live does not natively support Komodo (KMD), you can still manage your KMD holdings securely by connecting your Ledger device to a compatible wallet like AtomicDEX or the Komodo Ocean Wallet.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to connect your Ledger to a Komodo-compatible wallet and manage your KMD tokens safely.
Please download the last update of Ledger Live Application:

2. Ledger Live for MAC
3. Ledger Live for Android
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
✅ A Ledger Nano S, Nano X, or Nano S Plus.
✅ The latest version of Ledger Live installed.
✅ The Komodo Ocean Wallet or AtomicDEX (Ledger-compatible wallets).
✅ Your Ledger device initialized and updated with the latest firmware.
Step 1: Set Up Your Ledger Device
- Initialize Your Ledger (if new)
- Follow the on-screen setup instructions.
- Write down your 24-word recovery phrase and store it securely.
- Install Ledger Live & Update Firmware
- Download Ledger Live from the official website.
- Install and open the app.
- Connect your Ledger device and update its firmware if needed.
Step 2: Install the Komodo (KMD) App on Your Ledger
Since Komodo is a UTXO-based blockchain (similar to Bitcoin), you’ll need the Bitcoin app on your Ledger to manage KMD.
- Open Ledger Live and go to “Manager” (the third tab on the left).
- Connect and unlock your Ledger device.
- Search for “Bitcoin (BTC)” in the app catalog.
- Click “Install” to add the Bitcoin app to your Ledger.
(Note: The Bitcoin app is used because Komodo is Bitcoin-compatible, and Ledger does not have a dedicated KMD app.)
Step 3: Connect Ledger to a Komodo-Compatible Wallet
Option 1: Using Komodo Ocean Wallet (Recommended)
- Download Komodo Ocean Wallet
- Visit the official Komodo website: https://komodoplatform.com.
- Download the Komodo Ocean Wallet for your OS (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
- Open Komodo Ocean Wallet
- Launch the wallet and select “Hardware Wallet” when prompted.
- Choose “Ledger” from the list.
- Connect Your Ledger Device
- Plug in your Ledger and unlock it.
- Open the Bitcoin app on your Ledger.
- The wallet will detect your Ledger and display your KMD balance.
- Access Your KMD Wallet
- Once connected, you can view your balance, send, and receive KMD securely.
Option 2: Using AtomicDEX (For Trading & Swapping)
- Download AtomicDEX
- Visit https://atomicdex.io and download the wallet.
- Connect Your Ledger
- Open AtomicDEX and select “Connect Hardware Wallet.”
- Choose “Ledger” and follow the prompts.
- Open the Bitcoin app on your Ledger when prompted.
- Manage & Trade KMD
- Once connected, you can trade KMD directly from your Ledger-secured wallet.
Step 4: Send and Receive Komodo (KMD) with Ledger
Receiving KMD
- Open your Komodo Ocean Wallet or AtomicDEX.
- Click “Receive” to generate a KMD address.
- Verify the address on your Ledger screen (to prevent phishing).
- Share this address with the sender.
Sending KMD
- Open your wallet and click “Send.”
- Enter the recipient’s KMD address.
- Input the amount and adjust fees if needed.
- Confirm the transaction on your Ledger device.
- Wait for the transaction to be confirmed on the Komodo blockchain.
Step 5: Secure Your Komodo (KMD) Holdings
- Never share your 24-word recovery phrase.
- Always verify transaction details on your Ledger screen.
- Keep your Ledger firmware and wallet software updated.
Conclusion
While Ledger Live does not natively support Komodo (KMD), you can still securely manage your KMD tokens by connecting your Ledger to Komodo Ocean Wallet or AtomicDEX. This ensures your private keys remain offline while allowing full control over your funds.
